Terry Fox Run organizers needed immediately in both Sointula and Woss Lake

Courage, ambition, and spirit are just a few characteristics that Terry Fox possessed and selflessly devoted towards his ultimate goal - to outrun cancer.

“I’m going to do my very best. I’ll fight. I promise I won’t give up,” Fox said after running for 143 days and 5,373 kilometres across Canada during his Marathon of Hope to help find a cure for cancer. Communities all across Canada will be participating in the Terry Fox Run this year; however, the communities of both Sointula and Woss might not take part in Terry’s tradition if these communities cannot find Run Organizers for this year.

“It would be such a shame for the people of Sointula and Woss Lake to miss out on an opportunity to keep Terry’s legacy alive as every community, no matter how big or small, can make a huge impact, just as Terry learned when a small town of 10,000 people raised over $10,000,” says Donna White, provincial director for the Terry Fox Foundation BC & Yukon. “The Terry Fox Foundation funds research in all kinds of cancer, believing as Terry did, that we need to conquer this disease once and for all.”

With help from people all across the world, money fundraised in Fox’s name has made The Terry Fox Foundation a national investor in cancer research.

“When I started this run, I said that if we all gave one dollar, we’d have $24 million for cancer research ... there’s no reason that isn’t possible,” Fox said before he died.

Since the Marathon of Hope in 1980, The Terry Fox Foundation has raised more than $600 million and has helped to reshape Canada and cancer research. The Foundation proudly donates 84 cents of every dollar donated to cancer research in Fox’s name. In order to continue doing so, volunteer Run Organizers are extremely important for their community’s involvement.

The Terry Fox Foundation is looking for a motivated individual to take on the role as a Run Organizer for Sointula or Woss’ Terry Fox run on Sun., Sept. 16, 2012.  Anyone who is interested can contact Donna White at the Terry Fox Foundation at bcyukon@terryfoxrun.org or 1-888-836-9786.
