Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins split: report

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Oscar winning actors Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins have split up after more than two decades together, People magazine reported on Wednesday.

Teal Cannaday, a representative for Sarandon, told the celebrity magazine the two actors separated over the summer after a 23-year relationship.

Cannaday and a representative for Robbins could not immediately be reached for comment.

The pair were not married, but they have two sons together. For years, they have been one of the entertainment industry's most enduring couples known for their film work as well as their social and political activism.

Sarandon stars in "The Lovely Bones," which was released in U.S. theaters earlier this month, and she won an Oscar for her role in the 1995 criminal execution movie "Dead Man Walking."

Robbins won a best supporting Oscar for his role in 2003's "Mystic River." He is also an author and the director behind "Dead Man Walking."
